ARCHETYPE IDopenEHR-EHR-OBSERVATION.rinne_weber_result.v1
ConceptRinne and Weber Test Results
DescriptionTwo hearing screening tests, commonly recorded together to determine the presence and character of any detected hearing loss.
UseUse to record the results of the Rinne and Weber tests as part of screening for hearing loss.
MisuseNot to be used to record the results of other hearing tests. Use other OBSERVATION archetypes specific for the purpose, for example, OBSERVATION.audiometry_result and OBSERVATION.tympanogram_226hz.
PurposeTo record the results of the Rinne and Weber tests as part of screening for hearing loss.

Weber Test ResultWeber Test Result: A test to compare bone conduction in both ears.
  • No Lateralisation [The sound from vibration is heard equally in both ears.]
  • Lateralising Left [The sound from the vibration is heard predominantly on the left.]
  • Lateralising Right [The sound from the vibration is heard predominantly on the right.]
Rinne TestRinne Test: A test to compare the subject's perception of sounds transmitted by air conduction to those transmitted by bone conduction through the mastoid.
Ear TestedEar Tested: Identification of the ear being tested.
  • Left [The left ear was tested.]
  • Right [The right ear was tested.]
Rinne Test ResultRinne Test Result: The result of the Rinne Test.
  • Positive [Air Conduction is greater than bone conduction.]
  • Negative [Air Conduction is less than bone conduction.]
Clinical InterpretationClinical Interpretation: Single word, phrase or brief description represents the clinical meaning and significance of the physical examination findings.
CommentComment: Additional narrative about the Rinne and Weber tests not captured in other fields.
